Neurofeedback Brain Training at Elite Fitness Plus
Elite Fitness Plus has partnered with Neurotopia Central Coast to bring Neurofeedback brain training to Westlake Village. Neurofeedback (also known as EEG biofeedback) was just categorized as a “level 1 – best support, evidenced based intervention” for by the American Academy of Pediatrics for treatment of ADHD. It is rated as effective as medication for core ADHD symptoms. Additionally, EEG brain training has been shown to be effective for other conditions such as concussion, anxiety, migraines, and sleep problems.
IDENTIFYING THE CAUSE
Over the last 10 years more has been learned about the brain’s function than ever before. With advances in neuroimaging, such as fMRI, SPECT, and EEG, it is now possible to measure your brain’s electrical activity. Your brain is electric. Every thought you think, every emotion you feel, and every sensation you have is due to the electrical firing of neurons. The EEG or electroencephalograph shows this activity instantaneously, within a few thousandths of a second after it occurs in the brain.
Using cutting-edge EEG technology, these brain patterns can now be measured and objectively compared to large normative databases. This provides a quantifiable assessment of the brain’s capacity for:
STRENGTHENING THE BRAIN
Research has shown that the brain has a tremendous ability to alter it’s default patterns. This process is called neuroplasticity and involves the brain physically changing by forming new neural pathways and by strengthening its’ existing neural connections. This is similar to the process of training a muscle. When you isolate a muscle and provide resistance, the muscle tissue changes and become stronger.
In the same way, EEG biofeedback training is an effective way to isolate and strengthen specific electrical patterns in the brain. It is vital for your brain to produce certain patterns of electricity in order to sustain attention, to exercise impulse control, and to maintain a calm state. When the brain does not produce the correct electrical patterns, behavioral and health problems can occur.
These errant brain patterns will be identified in your EEG Brain Assessment and an individualized training protocol will be implemented to strengthen patterns associated with optimal learning and behavior.
EEG biofeedback uses non-invasive sensors on the scalp to detect brain patterns associated with attention, executive control, and calmness. When the software identifies these patterns, the video game rewards you by accelerating your race car and moving faster toward the goal of the game.
With proper coaching and this real-time feedback loop, you can learn how to control your brain activity to optimize your learning and memory. The video game is designed to keep your attention while your brain is re-conditioned through practice and repetition. After completing 20 training sessions at forty-five minutes each, your brain should have a new capacity to sustain attention, to control impulsivity, and to reduce anxiety.
WHAT CONDITIONS DOES IT HELP?
The brain is the command center of the body. When it functions optimally, stress and anxiety are reduced, quality of sleep is improved, and people learn and perform at their maximum potential. Research has demonstrated efficacy in using EEG biofeedback for conditions including: concussions, sleep problems, anxiety/stress, migraine headaches, ADHD, and learning disorders.
IS IT AN “EVIDENCED BASED” INTERVENTION?
The American Academy of Pediatrics has just raised the efficacy rating of EEG biofeedback to a “Level 1 – Best Support” intervention for ADHD, equal to medication. Additionally, a 2009 meta-analysis of EEG biofeedback involving 1,194 ADHD subjects concluded that it meets the highest level of evidence-based support for the treatment of ADHD.
HOW SUCCESSFUL IS THE TRAINING?
Approximately 85% of our clients have significant measurable improvements. EEG biofeedback training optimizes your ability to learn, reduce anxiety, sustain attention, and recover through quality sleep.
